Pancake Tent at County Fair Raises over $7000 for Class Trip

The Mar Lee 7th grade class raised $7,156.46 at the pancake breakfast tent at the Calhoun County fair in Marshall this year. The tent offered a menu of pancakes, sausage, eggs to order, grilled cheese, and egg sandwiches. The money goes towards the 7th grade's upcoming class trip to Washington, DC to learn about American democracy.

Service learning project adds to playground

On July 15th, students from Mar Lee's rising 7th grade joined in with parents and Mr. Henke (Middle School Social Studies) to create a new addition to the playground: the school's first gaga pit. "gaga," a form of dodgeball, is an informal game played in an enclosed area, typically a circle surrounded by a low wooden wall. Players try to tag other players "out" by batting a ball into their legs. Only the arms and upper body may touch the ball, and it may not be thrown.

Students perform to sold-out audiences

Middle school students in the Mar Lee Drama Club performed two one-act plays to an enthusiastic audience on Thursday and Friday evening, May 28th and 29th. After Hours featured a group of manikins who come alive after hours to defend their clothing store against burglars. Attack of the Giant Grasshoppers depicted the effects of a science fair gone horribly wrong.

Sixth grade off to camp - blog available

The entire Mar Lee sixth grade set off this morning for a fun-filled week at Sherman Lake YMCA camp. The camp stresses community building through fun activities such as the one depicted at left. Amber and friends attempt to squeeze through the "electric" fence. Mar Lee swim week teaches new skills

With Olivet College students serving as volunteers, Mar Lee's annual swim week set out to teach new skills and eliminate fears. "It was really cool to learn diving and treading water," said Bryce Weaver, 6th grade student.  "I was sad when we left. I can't wait till next year when we all go swimming again," said Alexandria Miller, 6th grade student.

State Representative Kate Segal visits Mar Lee

On Wednesday, April 15th, State Representative Kate Segal visited Mar Lee to speak with students. "Our 4th graders thoroughly enjoyed meeting with her," said Kevin McCann, 4th grade teacher. "She answered a number of questions from our students about her work as our legislator." She also met with Chris Henke's 8th grade social studies class.
